Asthma Prevention

How Can I Control My Asthma?

Asthma is a disease which causes a person’s airways to become inflamed, leading to coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. Asthma is fairly common in young children, and oftentimes people with family members who have asthma or allergies are more likely to develop asthma themselves. Identifying your asthma triggers is an important part of asthma prevention.

Since no one really knows why some people suffer with asthma and some don’t, it’s important to consult an asthma specialist to discuss prevention treatments. For example, if the children with environmental allergy related allergic rhinitis are given allergy shots (immunotherapy), the development of asthma can be prevented. It is important to note, however, that only an allergy specialist has expertise to prescribe true asthma prevention treatments. Dr. Atul Shah of the Center for Asthma & Allergy is a Board Certified, world class asthma specialist.

We strive to find ways to fully control asthma so that children and adults with asthma can have a normal life. We can design a course of treatment to best alleviate the symptoms of asthma and to minimize the asthma attacks.
